On the evening of Saturday 14th reports started to come in of a spate of mobile phone snatching by four males riding two high speed Surron e-bikes. There were a number of snatches on our ward including on Victoria Street, Rochester Row and Vincent Square. Calls across the Met’s radio channel identified the location of each new offence and the direction of travel of the two e-bikes involved. The Met’s new Interceptor units utilising our own high-powered e-bikes started a coordinated pursuit which ended in Tooting where officers used tactical contact to stop and arrest the suspects. A total of 18 phones were recovered at the scene and 14 have so far been returned to their rightful owners. Saturday’s events highlight the ongoing threat of phone theft in our area but also the Police’s determination to bring the perpetrators to justice.
